Well folks, these are pictures from our recent adventures in beautiful Florence, Italy. This was the first stop on our "rocket-free" tour of Europe. We were hosted here by Olmsted scholars who lived two blocks from the Duomo and one block from the Academia, home of Michelangelo's David. Not too shabby! Enjoy...

The Duomo
The Duomo is deceptively big and marvelous in it's detail. It's the largest brick dome in the world.
The ceiling of the baptistry was breathtaking.

It can't be all art and no play, so we made time for carousels and goofing off throughout our stay.

We also took a day trip to Lucca. This gorgeous little town was perfect for running off some energy and enjoying a perfect day outdoors.

All in all, we had a wonderful time relaxing and strolling around Florence. It was truly a welcome change of pace from the tense situation we left in Israel (which ironically, was resolved during the second day of our little jaunt). One particular story comes to mind of us sitting at a little outdoor cafe under the shadow of the Duomo, eating pasta and drinking red wine and leisurely enjoying ourselves. Then we heard the familiar sound of a European police siren; Will perked up immediately with a serious look on his face and asked, "Mommy, what do we do when we hear sirens here?"
"Nothing, Will. You just enjoy your pasta."
