The next Holiday in the seemingly endless line of Jewish Holidays during September/October is Yom Kippur. This is the one day in Israel where EVERYTHING is shut down. No cars, no work, no school, and not even cable TV is broadcast. This is the day where Jews everywhere sit, fast, and reflect. This is also the holiday where even non religious Jews will attend the synagogue, (even in our secular neighborhood). If you would like a more in depth read on Yom Kippur, go here or here.
This holiday has evolved and given way to an odd phenomena in Tel Aviv and elsewhere throughout the country: everyone rides their bikes. They take full advantage of the fact that there is zero traffic on the streets. It's quite a sight, because you can literally rollerblade down the interstate (yes, we did that too). Just imagine an entire country where every road is closed to traffic. You have a country-wide outdoor party.

We made the most of the one day a year where anything with wheels and no combustion engine is free game in Israel. Despite a spectacular collision between Elizabeth & Will last night, it was a great time. We're pleased that there are no injuries to report, but unfortunately there are no pics or video, either. We did manage to throw this together, though...
So if you're in Tel Aviv for Yom Kippur, repent for your sins and please don't forget your helmet;)
